Meet the Hop
How do you get a job when even entry-level positions expect you to have prior work experience? This is the most annoying catch-22 situation faced by every college graduate. Fueled by a desire to create a program where students think critically in real-world situations (and the occasional margarita), Ad Club STL came up with the idea of an Internship Hop.
Five interns, (that’s us) were hand-picked for the opportunity to collaborate as a multidisciplinary team, explore agencies and produce client campaigns over the course of eight weeks. We are all a little quirky and fun, and we bring different ideas to the table. As we are getting to know the agency world, we would love for you to get to know us!
“My name is Magdalen Nancy Pike, but everyone calls me Maggie. I will be a senior at Southeast Missouri State University studying both global studies and public relations. I am from St. Louis, and I am excited to be exploring different agencies in a city that I love. For our team at Ad Club STL, I am the social media manager and the content writer. I hope to make lasting connections with new people, and I hope to learn as much as I can and improve as an aspiring professional. An interesting fact about me is that I have great luck and a knack for winning radio call-in contests!”
“Hey there! My name is Peyton Mogley, pronounced Mow-gli like the character from the Jungle Book, and I am a sprightly, soon to be senior, happily studying Corporate Communications and Integrated Marketing Communications at Southeast Missouri State University. I am from St. Louis and will be the Account Manager for the duration of the Internship Hop. I look forward to learning about various agencies and applying what I learned in the classroom to externally produce products among a talented team. I hope this experience will help me solidify my current career path or discover a new one. I enjoy giving hugs, admiring the adorable nature of other people’s children from afar, consuming mass quantities of extra chunky peanut butter in one sitting, and waking up early in the morning to watch the sunrise atop buildings.”
“Hi, my name is Jenni Fetcho! I’m a recent graduate from Webster University with a degree in graphic design and a minor in advertising and marketing. For this team I am the graphic designer/art director. I’m from St. Louis, and excited to be able to work in my hometown and with all of the amazing agencies here! This is going to be a wonderful experience and I’m thrilled to be a part of the first Internship Hop! I am a creative person looking for my place in this world, and hopefully this helps me get there while meeting a bunch of amazing people along the way!”
“My name is Kristen Randall. If you’re cool enough, you can call me Kris. With a degree from the renowned University of Missouri School of Journalism, I am prepared to serve as the Strategist for my Ad Club STL team! I like finding creative, strategic ways to get messages across, telling stories through campaigns and making brands come to life with personality. I may be Chi-town raised, but I’m excited to take on the St. Louis ad world one agency at a time through this unique Internship Hop experience.”
“Hey! I’m Sumit Jagdale. I quit a thriving career as a photographer in the fashion industry to hop across a couple of oceans and land in the United States. As luck would have it, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, fascinated by my application, let me enroll in the College of Journalism and Mass Communication (CoJMC). I have worked hard to make myself a nuisance valuable asset to UNL over the past year. The awesome people at AAF Ad Club STL offered me a chance to intern with some of the best agencies in St. Louis and I could not be more thrilled. I hope to use the time to get more likes on Instagram hone my skill as a writer and gain a deeper understanding of collaboration within an ad agency. My time spent as a professional photographer and my year at UNL have helped me develop a very particular set of skills. I will track you, I will find you…and I will pet your dog.”
This is only a gist of our personalities. With relevant experience under our belts, there is hope that the catch-22 curse will be broken. We appreciate Ad Club STL and the participating agencies for this one of a kind internship, and we can’t wait to begin!
