The First-Ever Pre-Super Bowl Watch Party
By: Blake Padberg, Mooslyvania
We’re always amazed at how the creative community comes out to show their support for the high-quality work coming out of St. Louis, and last night was no exception. The first-ever Pre-Super Bowl Watch Party at Anheuser-Busch served as a nice reminder of the caliber of work being produced right here at home and gave attendees a preview of some of the Big Game spots they’ll see on Sunday.
The night kicked off with a highlight reel from six local production companies: Coolfire Studios, Antidote, Rukus, Once Films, Avatar Studios and 90 Degrees West. The montage served as a timely reminder of the production quality available right in our own backyard and was a perfect segue into a presentation about what it takes to get a Super Bowl spot on the air. Aric Jost and Joe Bishop of Cannonball showed the crowd the highs (and some lows) of their history of producing spots for Anheuser-Busch, providing a humorous behind-the-scenes look at what it actually takes to get that polished :30 or :60 on the air. (Pro tip: always make sure your space alien signs a contract.)
Capping the night was a reel of some pre-released Super Bowl LI spots, invoking the traditional laughter and tears that they usually do (and maybe a few cringes).
Big thanks go out to the production companies for their ongoing stellar work, Joe & Aric for a great bit of insider storytelling, and Anheuser-Busch for being great hosts. And most of all to everyone who attended. Judging by that turnout, we shouldn’t be surprised if St. Louis metro area viewership goes down during the commercials on Sunday.
