Terry Baer Honored

In early 2014, a group of Ad Club Lamplighters’ alumni (Terry Baer, John Grizzell, and Robert C. Vogel) spent the better part of a day researching the Ad Club archives and reviewing rosters from the past three decades at the new Saint Louis Library, after coming up with the idea to get Ad Club friends and colleagues together for a ‘reunion’ of sorts, where it was also decided that any money remaining after expenses would go to a club college scholarship fund.

With the help of many, two scholarships resulted from the inaugural 2014 event, and three $1,000 scholarships were created from the 2015 event. Terry Baer was a long-time Ad Club member and one of the former Lamplighters who helped create this event, currently called the Ad Club Annual, and upon his untimely passing in early 2016, the scholarship was named in his honor. Proceeds from this year’s benefit will be awarded at the 2017 event on Thursday, November 30th.

The following are some remarks from this year’s event…

Terry Baer Honored

“Terence Michael ‘Terry’ Baer passed away on March 14, 2016, at the very young age of 61 years, and because of who he was to us and our community, we’ve renamed the scholarship fund in his honor.

Terry was an Ad Club Lamplighters board member and longtime active member and club volunteer …

Terry was a trusted friend, a wonderful colleague, and a very intelligent professional, who also had a terrific sense of humor. A lifetime Saint Louisan, Terry graduated from Whitfield School and attained his master’s degree from Washington University in Saint Louis.

Terry was a man of principle … he lived his life focused on the core values of ‘respect and service to others’. He was a former president of the Rotary Club of Clayton and Ladue, longtime board member of Mathews-Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Saint Louis, and the Campbell House Saint Louis.

Terry was President of Blacktie-Missouri, where he found a niche that allowed him to combine his creative-oriented business with his passion for people and our community that he loved so much.

Terry was a career-long and personal friend of mine, of John Grizzell’s, and of so many others here this evening, and many, many others who could not join us this evening, but who are here in spirit … and speaking of being present in spirit, we know Terry is here tonight – mingling amongst this group and having fun, as he always did.

We are delighted to have Mimi Baer, Terry’s wife of 23 years, with us here this evening, although Terry and Mimi’s wonderful son Jonathon is unable to join us, as he is away at school – but he knows of this special tribute to his father. We’d like to ask Mimi to join us now, so that we may recognize her and present to her a plaque that commemorates this special evening, as we rename the scholarship fund to officially become the Terry Baer Memorial Scholarship Fund.” – Robert C.
