Position Summary
The role of Alumni & Constituent Engagement (ACE) is to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, personal and professional development, and events and programs for alumni (and friends) to enhance loyalty, dedication, and philanthropic support for Washington University. Teams within ACE include Alumni Networks, Class and University Programs, and Alumni & Parents Admission Program

The Assistant Director, Marketing & Digital Communications will report to the Director, Marketing & Digital Communications. The Assistant Director’s primary area of focus will be to develop printed and electronic marketing materials that promote events and programs sponsored by the Office of Alumni & Constituent Engagement.

Job Description
This position includes in-person events and may require work hours outside of typical week days.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
– Develop printed and electronic marketing materials that promote events and programs sponsored by the Office of Alumni & Constituent Engagement. Events and programs may include but are not limited to Network events (Regional, Shared Interest and Cultural, and Professional and Industry), Reunions, the Alumni Association Travel Program, the Alumni Board of Governors, and the Alumni & Parents Admission Program.
– Update the Alumni & Constituent Engagement sections of the University Advancement website and make recommendations for new content. Ensure that content is always up-to-date.
– Coordinate and execute social media strategies in coordination with the Director and the Office of Advancement Communications.
– Monitor growth in social media channels and determine appropriate messages for optimum engagement.
– Additional responsibilities as assigned. As a member of the Alumni & Constituent Engagement team, the Assistant Director may be asked to support and work at events on campus.

Preferred Qualifications
– Experience in interactive marketing, communications, and/or information technology, preferably in higher education or advancement.
– Experience working in a professional office setting.
Knowledge of and proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, FileMaker Pro) and standard office equipment.
– Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
– Knowledge of WordPress or similar platform and experience with social media.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to web standards, including web accessibility standards.
– Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of alumni and advancement programs and the activities of the department.
– Desire to play a meaningful role in the University’s community and to share in the community’s commitment to education and research.
– Ability to work successfully with administration, faculty, alumni, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.
Ability to listen carefully, learn quickly, and work effectively in a complex organization.
– Exceptional interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
– Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
– Ability to stay task-oriented without supervision.
– Honesty, integrity, and enthusiasm; a very strong work ethic, supported by commitment and follow through.

Required Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience.
